Projected Sales

Definition: The total amount spent on a selected item during the time period analyzed, projected up to the national level.

Calculation: Buy Rate (average $ spent per household) x Household Penetration (% households buying) x Total Number of Households

Household Count (Projected)

Definition: The estimated number of households who purchased the item


โ€‹Calculation: Household Penetration (% of total households buying item) x Total Number of Households

Trip Count (Projected)

Definition: The estimated number of shopping trips matching your selected criteria nationally.

Calculation:

Purchase Frequency (Trips per Household) x Household Penetration (% of households buying) x Total Number of Households

Item Units (Projected)

Definition: The estimated number of item units sold nationally.

Calculation: Units per Household (average units purchased per household) x Household Penetration (% of households buying) x Total Number of Households

Watchouts

  • Please note that there is a difference between projected metrics that come directly from reports in the platform and projected metrics that are calculated manually using the formulas above. If you notice a discrepancy between a projected metric seen in a report compared to one you manually calculated, it is likely due to the fact that reports may use weighting or other adjustments to better align to the total US population. It's important to note that manually calculated projected metrics are meant for directional use only. If you intend to use manually calculated projected metrics for reporting purposes, it is best practice to include a caveat highlighting that the data was calculated manually and is not a projected metric coming directly from the Insights platform.
